The excitement and hard rock energy were evident during Buckcherry’s recent concert.
The six-man group from Los Angeles, Calif. performed an energetic and raw performance at Jake’s Backroom in Lubbock on Oct. 7.
Buckcherry formed in 1995 and released their first studio album, “Buckcherry,” in 1999. It peaked just inside the top 75 on the U.S. charts. They had continued success with their following album, but their third album, “15,” led them to the eighth position on the U.S. charts. Their 2013 album, “Confessions,” also reached top-10 status.
The success of their previous two albums, and the recent release of their fifth album, “Rock ‘n’ Roll,” helped to attract a large crowd to the concert.
The show began with a performance by local band, You’re a Liar, I’m a Cheat. The hard rock trio performed some of their own songs, including, “Don’t Know Why,” and “Now You’re Gone.” They also performed a hard rock cover of one of Katy Perry’s most iconic songs, “Teenage Dream.”
After their performance, the second opening band took the stage. Sons of Texas from McAllen, Texas, performed many of the hard rock and heavy metal songs from their 2015 album, “Baptized in the Rio Grande.” Some of the songs they played were, “Pull It and Fire,” “Baptized in the Rio Grande,” and “Bow Down.” Their hard rock style and heavy instrumentation made them a perfect opening performance for Buckcherry.

After much anticipation, Buckcherry finally took the stage and were greeted by heavy applause from the audience.
They began with one of their most famous, and most energetic songs, “Lit Up,” which the crowd sang along with. They played several of their other hit songs, including “Everything,” “Sorry,” “Out of Line,” and “Sunshine.”
Lead singer Josh Todd danced and jumped across the stage until he was covered in sweat. Guitarist Stevie D. and percussionist Xavier Muriel played alternating solos throughout the concert, which added to the hard rock energy. The explicit nature of many of their song lyrics, and the energy throughout the show, resulted in a intense and bold ambiance. Throughout the concert, the band interacted with the audience and thanked the crowd and the opening bands repeatedly for their support. The crowd involvement, combined with the small venue, created an intimate effect.
Buckcherry closed their 15-song set with one of their most successful songs, “2 drunk,” which received a lot of praise from the crowd. After their performance, the band stayed at the venue to greet the audience members and sign merchandise.
The band’s energy, sound, and friendliness toward the crowd left a big impression on me. This is the kind of show that most rock ‘n’ roll fans would love to see. I give their performance five out of five stars.
