The twisted logic in this society is that if a girl or boy is at a party and drinking, there is permission for anyone to take advantage of them.
We live in a cruel world where the villains are always praised and the actual victims are left alone and helpless without someone’s hand to help.
Short skirts, tight shirts, pants, drunk, or sober, none of these things is a permission slip for someone to think it’s OK to hurt someone or invade someone’s privacy.
Approximately one in four college-age women is raped by a date or experiences an attempted date rape during her college years, according to Girls Health magazine.
Of these women who have been date raped, 84 percent knew their attackers.
How sad is it that women can’t even go out and have fun with their friends without being afraid of someone spiking their drink?
Some people might say that they shouldn’t even go out partying. But the truth is that college kids are going to do exactly what they want. What people should start saying is that taking advantage of someone is wrong.
If someone is passed out and not capable of making decisions on his or her own, that is not an invitation for someone to invade their body.
The Health Department at Brown University reports that women between the ages of 16-24 are four times more likely to be date raped than any other age group. That is someone’s daughter, sister, cousin, granddaughter, or niece.
About 74 percent of the perpetrators and 55 percent of the victims of rape within a nationally representative sample of college students had been drinking alcohol, according to the Brown University Health Department.
In a college study at Yale University, 33 percent of men said that if they could escape date rape without getting caught, they would rape someone.
Girls Health Magazine reports that survivors of rape and sexual assault are more likely than non-victims to attempt or consider suicide.
The thought of someone putting something in someone’s drink and taking advantage of them is one of the scariest things that happens entirely too often.
People should never think it’s OK to abuse anyone. It can do and has done so much damage to a person’s confidence.
This society punishes women for their behavior and makes it look like they are “asking for it.” But what really needs to be looked at are the people who think it’s OK.
Women are people, not objects to fill sexual desires. That is not why we were placed on this earth. We have goals and ambitions, dreams to accomplish. We should be treated with respect.
We shouldn’t let ignorance shatter the lives of women. We need to be uplifting and encourage women worldwide.
