Gods, powers, and some amazing CGi.
What more could a movie freak ask for?
“Gods of Egypt” is a fantasy film based in an alternate ancient Egypt, where Gods live among the people who worship them.
The cast features many recognizable faces, such as Gerard Butler from the film, “300”, Nikolaj Coster- Waldau, better known for his roles in “Game of Thrones” and “Oblivion”, and one of the more fresher faces, Brenton Thwaites, who had roles in “The Giver” and “Maleficient.”
The movie first began with a storyline read by one of the main characters, Bek, describing how creation came about and how the sun god, Ra, made his choice between his two sons, Set and Osiris, to be King of Egypt. Of course, this would upset one of the brothers.
The gods are distinguished from the humans because they are greater in height, they have golden blood, and they also can transform into animal-like form. The little story continues and leads up to where Bek’s story begins.
It begins with the day of the coronation of the King God Horus, the son of Osiris. Bek, who is also a thief, is walking down the road when suddenly he sees this beautiful green dress.
He takes it off the stand and takes off running. Bek does have good motives. The dress happens to be for his beloved Zaya (Courtney Eaton), who didn’t think she had anything beautiful to wear to the coronation.
The humans are leaving gold and other things for the gods at the coronation so that the gods look upon their offering favorably and allow the humans into the afterlife when they die. Osiris, the god King, begins talking to the crowd and explaining that it is not how much you give or how little you offer when they are all dead and gone. He then asks his son to stand, and then there is a commotion as the humans begin scattering. Set and another god are making their way through the crowd.
Set then gives a horn to Horus and asks him to blow it. An army wearing red begins pushing thier way through the crowd. Set challenges Osiris to a fight for the place of king. Osiris refuses, and he is then killed by Set.
Set then challenges Horus for the crown, and Horus is defeated and blinded. Humans and gods are told to bow to Set, and when chaos breaks loose, Bek and Zaya are separated.
This is only a short piece of the movie, but I wouldn’t want to ruin everything.
This movie was amazing, and it had some great CGI. The different scenes that they created were simply eye-catching. The actors played each part and deepened each character’s personalities and their relationships. The plot continues to expand throughout the movie, which I liked a lot. It kept you on the edge of your seat while waiting to see how each story line would make the full circle.
I loved that even though it was an action and adventure movie, it had love stories, friendships that strengthened, and that one person who is always sarcastic.
I strongly advise everyone to watch this movie. It has a little bit of everything in this film.
I give this film 5 out of 5 stars.
