Randy Neugebauer announced he would not run for reelection, leaving nine candidates in the running to take his seat in Congress.
After many months of running, two candidates are left, fighting for their own spot in Congress.
The Social Science Department at South Plains College is set to hold the 19th Congressional District Candidate Forum at Tom T. Hall on May 17 in the Creative Arts Building on the Levelland Campus, beginning at 6 p.m.
The two candidates at the forum will be Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson and Jodey Arrington, president of Scott Laboratories, a company that specializes in commercializing health care innovations.
Robertson was elected mayor of Lubbock on May 12, 2012.
According to his website, glenforcongress.com, Robertson says he will work to stop Obamacare, replace the tax code, combat terrorism, along with guarding the citizens’ individual liberties, private property, family, and faith.
According to his website, jodeyarrington.com, Arrington says he will strengthen national security, empower small businesses and entrepreneurs, and protect conservative values.
Robertson and Arrington are running to replace Neugebauer, who has held the seat for 13 years.
During the forum, KJTV’s Jeff Klotzman and Dr. Corye Beene, history professor at SPC, will be moderating the forum.
The event is free and open for the public to view.
However, citizens will not be able to ask the candidates any questions.
“This is meant to help people’s opinions on who to vote for,” said Drew Landry, assistant professor of Government at SPC.
The forum will also be televised on Fox NewsNow, channel 34.
