If you love doing the Lord’s work, this trip is for you.
The Baptist Student Ministry will be participating in a mission trip on Oct. 13 – Oct. 16, in Arlington, Texas.
Mission Arlington is one unlike any other mission trip. It is also one of the easiest to go to.
“It is a super crazy mission trip,” said Jennifer Patterson, interim BSM director at South Plains College. “You go and you literally do not know what you will be doing.”
Attendees could be helping by doing many things, such as helping the less fortunate, to giving away hygienic necessities.
“We may scrape paint off of a house and repaint it for someone who is unable to do it,” Patterson says. “Sometimes we head over to an apartment complex and give away shoes to those in need. You just don’t really know what you will be doing.”
The BSM is currently looking for people with “a willing heart to serve wherever the Lord needs you that day.”
Students willing to go pay a fee of $35 for food and transportation. As far as sleeping arrangements, accommodations will be provided.
“Most mission trips you, may have to find your own [place to stay],” says Patterson. “Mission Arlington will let you stay in an unfurnished apartment or a church.”
The only thing that attendees will have to bring is, of course, comfortable clothes (something you are not afraid of getting dirty), closed-toe shoes, a sleeping bag or a blow-up mattress, and personal hygiene products. It is advised to bring extra money, just in case the bus stops on the way.
The BSM will be leaving the evening of Oct. 13 (around 5:30 p.m.) and will come back on the following Sunday, so students will not miss class on Monday. People who would like to attend can sign up at the BSM building or during worship night on Wednesday in the Sundown Room of the Student Center on the Levelland campus.
If you are not able to attend this trip but really want to help, the BSM will be going on two other mission trips, one in December and another in the spring. The others are a bit more expensive and require some planning, but everyone is welcomed. Anyone wanting to participate can stop by the BSM building or can contact them by phone or email.
The vocational nursing students from both the Reese Center and Levelland campus will join the BSM at the Mission trip in El Paso, Dec. 16 – Dec. 18. While at the mission trip, the nursing students will be helping local physicians and will give out personal care items along with rice and beans.
Donations are needed and can be dropped off at the Vocational Nursing Department in Building 5 at the Reese Center campus in Lubbock. They are asking for full-size (not hotel size) hygiene products, such as shampoo, body lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrushes or combs, along with bags of beans and rice.
