The South College Plains men’s and women’s cross country teams continued to build on early-season success with a strong showing in Snyder.
The teams competed in the Western Texas Open on Sept 24.
The SPC men’s team dominated the event by placing runners in the top six finishers and another in the top 10 in the 8K.
Sophomore Felix Kosgei placed first with a time of 27:16, while sophomore Jose Silva placed second with a time of 27:46 and sophomore Deric Martinez placed third with a time of 28:39.
Coming in fourth and fifth, respectively, were sophomore Omero Rodriguez and sophomore Conner Hughes. Rodriguez finished with a time of 28:41, and Hughes finished with a time of 29:23.
Rounding out the top 10 were freshman Leo Michel and sophomore Nicholas Rotich, who finished in sixth and 10th, respectively. Michel finished with a time of 29:48, while Rotich posted a time of 31:08.
Freshman Kai Rodgers finished with a time of 38:34, finishing 18th.
The SPC women’s cross country team also ran well at the Western Texas Open, placing runners in the top three spots and another in the top 10.
Freshman Seselia Dala placed first with a time of 20:51 in the women’s 5K, while freshman Leslie Romero placed second with a time of 21:28. Sophomore Poro Gahekave placed third with a time of 22:02.
Freshman Caitlyn Mercer finished with a time of 23:38, placing sixth, while freshman Lydia Mancillas posted a time of 25:38, finishing 12th.
The SPC cross country teams also ran at New Mexico Junior College on Sept 30. Results were not available at press time.
