‘Stranger Things’ is new Netflix obsession

Whether you are looking for a show full of heart, or you want to be creeped out for days, “Stranger Things” is an addictive show that will have you on an unbreakable Netflix binge.

This show has grown in popularity, and has viewers following the town of Hawkins, Indiana to the Upside Down.

The story follows a group of children with a very interesting dynamic. Most of the shows deal with paranormal aspects experienced through the eyes of skeptical and more mature characters. However, with “Stranger Things,” it is the complete opposite. The young boys are full of endless imagination. Will, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas are so innocent and heartfelt that you automatically fall in love with them.

In most horror and suspenseful movies, you don’t normally see a lot of love and compassion. Throughout the show, these boys, and many of the other characters, grow. At the beginning of the season, the boys have full childlike innocence. Throughout the season, they grow and mature, becoming these bold and brave heroes.

The main plot behind the show starts when Will goes missing. The boys bond together to find him. That is when they run into an intriguing new friend. They meet Eleven, who has the complete opposite story than the boys. She is a girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders. As the story progresses, she becomes more innocent and embraces her childhood.

Eleven is found by the boys when they are searching for Will in the woods. However, Eleven is not a normal girl like the boys first think. She possesses these amazing supernatural powers. She is found in the woods because she is on the run from a secret lab that was using her for her abilities.

One thing that makes this show so great is the fact it is very universal. Obviously, from the title, you know this show is strange. Whether it is a frantic mom creating her own Ouija on her living room wall, or a boy hovering over a cliff, there are parts of the show that make you pause your screen and think for a second. There is nothing about this show that is cliché or typical.

There also is a huge amount of humor within and outside of the show. One of the funniest characters is Dustin, who has a mouth worse than any of the adults. Every time something happens, you will hear this kid saying every curse word while running.

Although the show has a lot of comedy, don’t let it fool you. It will keep you awake for several nights.

A big part of the show deals with a place the boys refer to as the “Upside Down.” It is basically another dimension of our world. However, this dimension is so underworld-like it can be seen as a form of Hell. It is a cold, cloudy, and dark world of emptiness. However, the eerie abyss is nothing for a viewer to be scared of. The real horror is what lives within the Upside Down. This creature is creepy and sickening. When it moves, it creates these gargling and guttural noises that will make your skin crawl.

Overall, the show is addictive, captivating, and perfectly creepy. The shows plays with every single human emotion. One minute you will be laughing to the point of tears, the next you will be at the edge of your seat. Once you start watching, you will not be able to stop. I give “Stranger Things” 5 out of 5 stars.
