The South Plains College men’s and women’s cross country teams continued their success with a strong showing in New Mexico.
The teams competed in the University of the Southwest Cross Country Invitational in Hobbs, New Mexico on Oct 14.
The SPC men’s team finished first in the event, placing first through fifth, and scoring 15 points, a perfect score.
Sophomore Felix Kosgei placed first with a time of 26:04, while sophomore Omero Rodriguez placed second with a time of 26:42.36, and sophomore Jose Silva placed third with a time of 26:42.61.
Sophomore Deric Martinez placed fourth with a time of 27:20, while sophomore Connor Hughes placed fifth with a time of 27:41 and sophomore Nicholas Rotich placed seventh with a time of 27:44.
Freshman Leo Michel finished 15th with a time of 29:18, while sophomore Rob Downs finished 17th with a time of 29:47. Freshman Kai Rodgers finished 28th with a time of 33:23.
The SPC’s women’s cross country team also had a solid showing at the University of the Southwest Cross Country Invitational, placing second with 36 points.
Freshman Seselia Dala placed fourth with a time of 19:23, while freshman Leslie Romero placed fifth with a time of 19:33. Sophomore Poro Gahekave placed seventh with a time of 20:23.
Freshman Latriceia Smith finished 19th with a time of 22:28, while freshman Caitlyn Mercer finished 21st with a time of 22:34.
Freshman Lydia Mancillas finished 24th with a time of 23:15, and freshman Jasmine Campos finished 29th with a time of 25:33.
The SPC cross country teams also competed at the Region V Championships on Oct. 29. Results were not available at this time.
