Rodeo teams post two solid showings

The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams continued recent success with two solid showings.

The teams competed in the Clarendon College Rodeo, which took place Oct. 13 – Oct. 15.

The SPC women finished seventh in the standings, with all of the points coming from sophomore Rainy Robinson and freshman Alex Odle. 

In the Goat Tying event, Robinson placed seventh and earned 35 points. In the Barrel Racing event, Odle placed fourth and earned 65 points.

The SPC men finished in ninth place at the Clarendon College Rodeo, with all of the points coming from freshman Chet Boren.

In the Steer Wrestling event, Boren placed third and earned 95 points.

The SPC men’s and women’s rodeo teams also competed in the Vernon College Rodeo, which took place Sept. 29 – Sept 30.

The SPC women finished fourth in the standings, with all of the points coming from Robinson, freshman Megan Burbidge and freshman Avery Gonzales.

In the Barrel Racing event, Robinson posted a time of 17.3 seconds in the long run and 17.17 seconds in the short run, placing fourth and earning 80 points.

In the Goat Tying event, Burbidge placed third and earning 80 points. In the Breakaway Roping event, Gonzales placed seventh and earned 50 points.

The SPC men’s team also earned fourth place at the Vernon College rodeo. Earning points were freshman Kade Sherwood, Boren and freshman Cameron McCarley.

In the Team Roping event, Sherwood posted a time of 5.3 seconds in the long run and 7.3 points in the short run, placing first and earning 160 points.

In the Steer Wrestling event, Boren tied for fourth and earned 80 points, while McCarley finished sixth and earned 50 points.

The SPC rodeo teams also competed at Texas Tech University Rodeo on Oct. 27 – Oct. 29. Results were not available at press time.
