Black Friday best time for holiday shopping

by VANESSA DELGADO//Staff Writer

Black Friday is by far the best time to shop during the year.

Prices for items are at an all-time low, and freebies are given out at many stores. The hustle and bustle of Black Friday may be intimidating to some. But to others, it’s the perfect pre-holiday sale, especially for families and people on a budget during the holiday season.

For college students, some of the best items to buy during Black Friday are clothes, electronics, appliances, and DVDs. But make sure you don’t spend too much outside of your budget.

Black Friday offers great deals on toys. So shopping for your children or a sibling can have a real payoff if you have a big list.

A few of the best places to shop on Black Friday are Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and even Amazon. One of the best parts of Black Friday is the doorbusters, first-come freebies, and gift cards with qualifying purchases. On top of possibly saving hundreds of dollars, you can get free stuff and huge gift cards. There’s so much to love about Black Friday!

Shopping during Black Friday without a plan of action is never a good idea. The best strategy is to look up the best sales and decide which stores have the best deals. Some apps can even do the work for you. First, pick which stores have the best deals and the items you most want. Then, rank them in order of importance, so if things get a little too hectic, or the store sells out of the item you want, you can have some of the more important things you might have needed.

A way to save even more is to use specific websites or apps that sell discounted gift cards for the stores you plan to shop at. This can help you save even more on some rock-bottom prices.

Black Friday provides such an adrenaline rush. It’s fun to buy amazing gifts for people while catching awesome deals. Buying your whole Christmas gift list with full-priced items can drain a bank account faster than you can say “happy holidays.”

If saving money, buying great gifts, and even getting cool stuff for yourself, doesn’t intrigue you, then Black Friday definitely isn’t for you. For those who love shopping and saving money, the time to start finding the best deals is coming up, with more and more Black Friday sale ads coming out. As Black Friday draws near, the stores are going to get more frantic as sales pop up. Fighting the urge to shop early might be a struggle, but the savings is well worth it.

Black Friday has become even more of a holiday tradition during the past couple of years. Prices for newer items have been dropping seriously low, beginning the day before Black Friday on Thanksgiving. Many stores open the day of Thanksgiving to start the sales early. Some deals may differ depending on the day you shop.

Typically, during Black Friday, the news shares horror stories of fighting crowds. From my experience, it is mainly just very busy and crowded.

The best time to go is at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the sale to ensure you get the items you want. Some places offer a 1-hour in-store guarantee. But this does not mean that you will get it unless you are in line early enough. Depending on the weather and savings, standing in line outside isn’t for everyone. It will most likely be cold during Black Friday, so dress warm if you plan on being in a line outside. I would only do so if the savings are huge, or if you want a big-ticket item.

Remember, Black Friday is a day to have fun and shop for the whole family. It’s a great tradition in the eyes of a sale-loving shopper. Hopefully this year the sales stay low and the balance in your bank account remains high.  Don’t forget to shop smart and stay safe.
