The South Plains College men’s and women’s cross country teams fared well at the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Championship.
The teams ran in the NJCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 12 at Prairie Trails Golf Course in El Dorado, Kansas.
The men’s team placed third in the overall standings in the 8K race with 112 points and two runners finishing in the top 10.
The top two runners finished fifth and 10th. Sophomore Felix Kosgei finished fifth with a time of 24:51, while sophomore Omero Rodriguez finished 10th with a time of 25:25.
Sophomore Nicholas Rotich finished 24th with a time of 25:55, while sophomore Jose Silva placed 28th with a time of 26:01. Sophomore Deric Martinez finished 47th with a time of 26:41.
Sophomore Conner Hughes finished 83rd with a time of 27:18, and freshman Leobardo Michel finished 173rd with a time of 28:26.
The SPC women had a good showing, finishing in eighth place in the 5K and collecting 261 points.
Freshman Seselia Dala placed 10th with a time of 18:20, while freshman Leslie Romero finished 14th with a time of 18:35. Sophomore Poro Gahekave finished 22nd with a time of 18:50.
Freshman Latriceia Smith finished 131st with a time of 20:42, and freshman Caitlyn Mercer finished 151st with a time of 21:03.
Freshman Jasmine Campos finished 192nd with a time of 21:36, and freshman Lydia Mancillas finished 246th with a time of 22:41.
