The South Plains College men’s and women’s cross country teams performed well while running half of a marathon that took place recently.
The teams ran in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Half Marathon National Championships on Nov. 19 at Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The men’s team placed second in the overall standings with 22 points.
The two top runners finished fourth and seventh. Sophomore Felix Kosegi covered the 13.2 miles with a time of 1:09:26, and sophomore Omero Rodriguez finished seventh with a time of 1:11:30.
Sophomore Nicholas Rotich finished 11th with a time of 1:12:1, while sophomore Conner Hughes finished 14th with a time of 1:13:05. Sophomore Jose Silva finished 18th with a time of 1:13:44.
The SPC women placed fourth with a total of 38 points.
Freshman Seselia Dala placed seventh with a time of 1:26:40, while freshman Leslie Romero finished 12th with a time of 1:29:03.
Sophomore Poro Gahekave finished 19th with a time of 1:33:20, while freshman Caitlyn Mercer finished 26th with a time of 1:36:05. Freshman Jasmine Campos finished 37th with a time of 1:42:01.
