The South Plains College rodeo teams began the spring season with several strong showings.
The teams competed at the Odessa College Rodeo, which took place on Feb. 23 – Feb. 25 in Odessa.
The SPC women finished in the standings with 205 points, which was good enough for fourth place. Earning points were sophomore Rainy Robinson with 105 points, freshman Megan Burbidge with 45 points, freshman Kashley Seitz with 30 points, freshman Baylee Henderson with 20 points, and freshman Sierra White with 10 points.
In the Barrel Racing event, Robinson posted a time of 15.34 seconds in the long run and 14.87 seconds in the short run, placing third. White posted a time of 15.29 seconds in the short run and 15.37 seconds in the short run, finishing ninth.
In the Goat Tying event, Burbidge posted a time of 8.1 seconds in the long run and 9 seconds in the short run, placing sixth. Seitz posted a time of 8.2 seconds in the long run and 9 seconds in the short run, finishing tied for seventh. Henderson posted a time of 7.9 seconds in the long run and 9.5 seconds in the short run, finishing ninth.
The SPC men collected 145 points in the Odessa College Rodeo, finishing tied for ninth. All of the points came from freshman Zach Kirkpatrick, with 60 points, and freshman Chet Boren and freshman Taylor Boren, who earned 85 points in a team event.
In the Tiedown Roping event, Kirkpatrick posted a time of 9.4 seconds in the long run and 100 seconds in the short run, placing fifth.
In the Team Roping event, the Boren brothers posted a time of 6.3 seconds in the long run and 15.6 seconds in the short run, placing third.
