The South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams used the New Mexico Junior College Invitational as a tune up for the upcoming National Indoor track meet.
SPC will have 40 athletes competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championship, which will be held March 3 – March 4 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
The teams competed in the New Mexico Junior College Invitational in Hobbs, N.M., on Feb. 18.
In the men’s 400-meter run, freshman Jordan Atkinson placed first with a time of 48.40, while sophomore Cordell Richardson placed fourth with a time of 51.65. Freshman Marcus Weeks placed sixth with a time of 54.32, N.M, Feb 18.
In the 800-meter run, freshman Felix Kosgei placed second with a time of 1:58.7, while sophomore Rodriguez Omero placed third with a time of 1:59.2. Freshman Dekaryea Freeman placed fourth with a time of 1:59.25.
In the 1,000 meter-run, sophomore Nicholas Rotich placed second with a time of 2:34.29.
In the Mile run, Kosgei placed first with a time of 4:25.52.
In the 5,000 meter run, sophomore Deric Martinez placed first with a time of 16:00.66, followed by sophomore Jose Silva in second with a time of 16:01.07, sophomore Connor Hughes in third with a time of 16:20.68, and freshman Leobardo Michel in fourth with a time of 17:00.2.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman William Watson placed first with a time of 8.07, followed by freshman Mason Weh in second with a time of 8.13, and sophomore Roje Jackson-Chin in third with a time of 8.25.
In the High Jump, freshman Laquan Nairn placed first with a jump of 2.05 meters, while sophomore Robert Dunning placed third with a jump of 1.95 meters. Freshman DeVaughnn Coleman placed fifth with a jump of 1.90 meters.
In the Pole Vault, freshman Jonathan Witt placed second with a jump of 3.90 meters, and freshman Collin Rodriguez placed fourth with a jump of 3.75 meters.
In the Long Jump, sophomore Derrick Monroe placed first with a jump of 7.33 meters.
In the High Jump, Monroe placed third with a jump of 14.20 meters, and sophomore Kwaume McGee placed fourth with a jump of 14.10 meters.
In the Heptathlon, freshman Patrick Johnson placed first with a total of 4,360 points, while Witt placed second with a total of 4,355 points and sophomore Zach Hancock placed third with a total of 4,318 points.
In women’s competition, freshman Safia Bright placed second in the 60-meter run with a time of 7.51, while sophomore Taylor Hill placed fourth with a time of 7.60. Sophomore Joi Gill placed sixth with a time of 7.70.
In the 200 meters, Bright placed second with a time of 24.08. Omotayo Abolaji placed fourth with a time of 24.51, and Hill placed fifth with a time of 24.87.
In the 600-meter run, freshman Anges Abrocquah placed first with a time of 1:34.38, followed by sophomore Latriceia Smith in second with a time of 1:34.53 and freshman Ashley Hughes in third with a time of 1:39.10.
In the 1000-meter run, sophomore Poro Gaekave placed second with a time of 3:03.66.
In the mile run, freshman Leslie Romero placed second with a time of 5:22.53.
In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Seselia Dala placed first with a time of 10:42.81, and freshman Caitlyn Mercer placed fourth with a time of 12:07.77.
In the High Jump, freshman Bosi Mosongo placed third with a jump of 1.61 meters, and sophomore Naomi Kerari placed fourth with a jump of 1.56 meters.
In the long jump, freshman Cha’Kaylin Gilbert placed second with a jump of 5.50 meters, and sophomore Melody Korie placed third with a jump of 5.49 meters.
In the shot put, freshman Jannia Price placed third with a throw of 10.78 meters.
