Games, activities offered for students at Levelland campus library

by Aricel Garza

If you need a break from studying, try going to the South Plains College Library on the Levelland campus.

The Library has begun having game nights, featuring multiple activities available throughout the week.

The line up is: Mondays, from 6-8 p.m., board games; Tuesdays, from 6-8 p.m., crochet and board games; and Wednesdays, from 6-8 p.m., papercrafting, where you can learn origami.

Want to learn origami on a Monday night? That’s OK, because origami paper is available all week, along with jigsaw puzzles, in case you want something to do that’s a little more quiet. The library also has coloring pages available.

Everyone is welcome to participate, including members of the public, adults, teens, and children.

According to Jessica Miesner, public service librarian at the SPC Levelland library, the library staff wanted to give students the chance to experience the library as a comfortable, relaxing, and collaborative space.

“We have new furniture on the first floor,” Miesner says, “and food is now allowed on the first floor, just not around the computers, of course.”

“In the Library, students can relax and take a break from studying, and yet keep their minds stimulated by working on a puzzle making origami, coloring pages, checking out a board game, or being creative in other ways,” she added.

Miesner says the library staff is open to suggestions for what other kinds of activities students would like to see.

Be on the lookout for updates about some upcoming activities. Miesner says there are plans in the works to create a Dungeons and Dragons night. She says that book and game pieces have already been ordered. There will also be special craft nights for upcoming holidays.
