Nursing students take practice shots

One by one, nearly 200 South Plains College nursing students rolled up their sleeves to give each other flu shots Monday morning.   Holly Scrivner, an associate degree in nursing instructor, said this is the first time first-semester nursing students have given an intramuscular injection, such as the flu shot, to a live person.  Before this, Scrivner said, first-semester students practice giving IM injections on oranges or grapefruits.  All nursing students must have a flu shot before going off-campus to complete clinical training.
