Finals week is swiftly approaching and students and faculty are making that final push for the end of the semester.
According to WebMD, getting outside might help you lower your stress and focus. And both of those results may come in handy as we fly straight into final exams week.
Authors in a 2021 article list 10 reasons why getting outside might help you.
These include:
- Helping you get exercise
- Getting vitamin D which is good for your bones, blood cells, and immune system
- Lessening anxiety because sunlight increases your serotonin levels which, in turn, can increase your energy, and keep your mood calm, positive, and focused
- Helping you connect with other people which is good for your mental health
- Improving sleep (need we say more?)
- Helping your self-esteem with as little as five minutes worth of outdoor activity
- Improving your focus
- Boosting your immunity because of increased vitamin D and because sunlight also seems to energize special cells in your immune system called T cells that help fight infection
- Boosting creativity partly because the outside world engages your attention in a quieter way that lets your attention refocus.
And hey, you just might spot a pretty bird perched in a tree.
