The chutes for the spring rodeo season cracked open Feb. 23 as all members of the team competed vigorously at the Odessa College Wrangler Rodeo.  Events ran from Thursday through Saturday, and the weekend brought good fortune to many of the team’s members.

All members of the SPC Rodeo Team competed, and nine those athletes qualified for Saturday night’s short go round.

Coach Kerry Doster said, “I was very pleased with the performance of our team at Odessa. We are looking forward to getting back in the practice pen to begin preparing for our next rodeo in Sweetwater on March 23rd.”
The SPC steer wrestlers brought their A-game to Odessa.   Jace Joos won the long round and ended up reserve overall. Logan Kenline was 4th in the long go and 3rd overall.

Clay Tom Hurt placed 8th in the long go and 6th overall.

Dawson Lowen was 6th in the long go and 10th overall.

Birch Eiguren and Titan Quigg both pulled through for the team in big ways as well by winning 1st in the long go in their respective events.   Quigg then went on to finish 6th overall in the calf roping and Eiguren came out 8th overall in the team roping.

The SPC women’s team had a successful weekend as well. Morgan Northcutt split 4th – 6th in the breakaway long go to then come back in the short go and clinch the reserve title.

Sammy Taylor was 7th in the goat tying for the long round and ended up 10th overall.

Emery Mask split the win in the breakaway long go and finished in a tie for 4th place overall when all was said and done.

As the season continues, Doster is looking forward to what the team will accomplish. The next rodeo is March 23 through 25 where you can find the team competing in the Cisco College Rodeo in Sweetwater, Texas.  They will compete for event titles there and points towards the College National Finals Rodeo as well.
