Get ready for a scary good time at the annual TexHex Haunted Halloween Spooky Spectacular. The event, set for Friday, October 27, is organized by Student Life with the help of clubs and organizations and is open to students and the community.
This is the third year for TexHex, which used to be called the Halloween Carnival but was rebranded by Student Life Director Joshua Meredith.
With the event going on for so many years, Meredith said that there is an effort to keep it fresh and entertaining for those returning.
“Every year we switch up the games and keep it new and exciting as to not do the same thing every year,” Meredith said. “We’re always looking to make the whole experience itself different and better, and more exciting than it was the year prior.”

Meredith says there will be many clubs helping with the event, along with work study students. For example, Juntos Somos Mas club will make the food this year.
“I saw it as an opportunity to promote the club to the community,” Meredith said
Following the TexHex event, there will be a dance and Halloween party for students at the student union building.
“We have a dance at the end of the night, to kind of treat all the volunteers that come out and help from all the student organizations that spend time helping work,” Meredith says.
The event is an SPC tradition, and Meredith says that the event is important for the relationship between the college and the community.
“SPC is supported by the community, it’s embedded in the town of Levelland. Employees live here in town, thy have kids in local schools, and this is just a say to bridge that gap,” Meredith said, “Those involved in clubs and student government, it’s a good way to build relationships and interact and have real engagement with the community.”
Meredith says that the theme of TexHex this year comes from his “veteran” students who have helped him in the past, which is based on movies that were released this past summer.
“We came up with ‘Barbenheimer,’ a blend between ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer,’ the two movies that came out over the summer. The blend of beauty and then chaos,” Meredith said.

Meredith says that TexHex is the biggest event of the year for Student Life.
“It’s a great opportunity to bring people together and to have fun celebrating Halloween,” Meredith said.
TexHex will be held on Friday, October 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Halloween dance for SPC students will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight following the community event.
