The SPC Lubbock Downtown Center library staff wants students to know they can take some holiday spirit home with them over the Christmas break. The Christmas books on display behind the snowflake windows at the small library office are available for checkout over the break.

Altogether there are about two dozen titles to choose from.

“We have a little bit of fiction,” says Tracey Pineda, librarian at the SPC Lubbock Downtown Center. “We have some that might be kind of devotional. We have some that are history. We have some that are not on display because we have a tiny space, but that deal with the history of old Christmas and yule and old timey kind of traditions around the world.” There is one catch to this holiday book plan: students have to bring the books back.

“So, if somebody wanted to check out a book,” Pineda says, “we’d ask ‘are you enrolled for spring?’ And if they are that’s great, and if they’re not, we would get some more details and let them know that we still need to get the book back when we come back from the holiday break. If people don’t turn things in, we have to place holds on their records. Over the holidays we offer a longer checkout period, so hopefully that will make things easier.” So, if someone is tired of staring at textbooks, maybe they should consider giving other books a try over the break.

“It’s a small collection,” Pineda says, “but there are some fun books.
Happy holidays.
