Photography & Basketball: It’s all about the shots

The Lady Texans took to the court this week for practice, and students from COMM 1318 Photography 1 were on the floor with them.

The Lady Texans practiced hard, gearing up for a matchup against Western Texas College in Snyder scheduled for tonight.

“We were working on improvement in our offensive execution from a timing, spacing, and movement standpoint,” said Ara Baten, SPC’s head women’s basketball coach.

While the Lady Texans handled the ball, photography students practiced capturing motion with their cameras.  Is it better to use a fast shutter speed and freeze the action? Or a slow one that shows a blur?  Results are featured below.

The Lady Texans are 6 and 2 for the season, so far, in conference play and are ranked at No. 11 in the NJCAA women’s league.

“I believe that our team has done a really good job of staying focused on the present and what needs to be accomplished,” Baten said, “without being too concerned about the past or future.

The next three games after this week will be home games against Clarendon College, Monday; Howard College, Thursday, Feb. 20; and Frank Phillips College Thursday, Feb. 27.

Don’t miss the action; be at the Dome next week and support the SPC Lady Texans!
