Blocks build, students frame: Library hosts Lego Day

South Plains College students tapped into their creativity at “Lego Day” in the SPC Library on the Levelland campus, Wednesday. The event was designed to offer a fun, low-stress way for students to engage with the library.

“We wanted to create a fun, low-stress event that brings students into the library in a welcoming way,” said Faith Garrett, Digital Resources and Outreach Librarian. “Studies show that students will often return if they’ve been to the library at least once. Plus, Legos encourage creativity and collaboration, which fit perfectly with our goal of making the library a place where students feel comfortable spending time.”

Garrett added that she hopes students walked away not only with their Lego creations, but also a new perspective on the library.

“We hope students can take a break from the stresses of college, relax, and enjoy building something with their peers. At the same time, we want them to see the library as more than just a study space, but also a place where they can connect, recharge, and learn the library can be fun.”

Also, students in COMM 1316 put their photography skills to the test at the event.  Students were able to unleash their imagination, build with Legos, and spark creativity.

As part of their assignment, students practiced capturing wide shots, medium shots, and close-ups to showcase different perspectives. Here are some of the results from their lenses.
