Students in one Intro to Mass Communications class recently used artificial intelligence and one of their favorite songs to become artists.
It started with a “soundtrack of your life” list. Students were asked to choose five – and only five- songs from any genre to include on their lists. They could choose the songs for any reason such as meaningful lyrics, or memories, or emotions attached to the songs.
But, in addition to the list, students had to include a short description about why they chose what they did.
Next, came the art assignment. Students were instructed to:
- Choose one song from their list, and
- Use the Google Gemini “text-to-image” tool to create an image of how the song makes them feel.
The songs students chose to visualize were varied. So were their artistic results. The text-to-image tool can create something that looks like a painting or a photograph.
Several students said they edited and re-edited their images until they turned out exactly how they wanted them to look.
