Fall is here, and so are the students. South Plains College officially started fall 2026 classes on Aug. 24. That means thousands of students headed to classes on all five SPC campuses.
Many students commuted to school and found busy parking lots.

Other students settled into Levelland campus dorms.
Most students organized school supplies and dusted off backpacks.
And some students made their way to buildings they’d never been to before.

Once inside the classrooms, students spread out – some already taking notes or logging into computer screens for online information.
SPC freshman Kaylee Hosmer says her first day of classes was “great”.

“I have a great communications teacher,” she says. “She has been really nice so far. I’m going to go home and do my online classes.”
SPC students were not the only ones heading back to school at the end of August. Students at Texas Tech started on Aug. 24 too.
For some students, the school routine includes not only getting to class but also taking care of business after the school day ends.
Student Kamryn Collins went to a local pizza parlor with friends for dinner the first week.
The 16-week fall semester lasts into December with final exam week starting Dec. 7. There is a fall break in October and a Thanksgiving holiday first!
