Create it. Build it. Eat it. That’s what the sign in the lobby said to do when students walked into the SPC Lubbock Downtown Center this week. So that’s what many did.
Librarian Tracey Pineda called the Lubbock event an “inaugural” one since they’ve never done it before at the Lubbock campus. They didn’t announce it ahead of time either, because she says they were not sure if students would like it.
As it turns out, they did.
“I got to visit with them while they sat here making the little Lego treats,” she says. “And they said they really enjoyed it.”
Students were encouraged to use Rice Krispies Treats and graham crackers to build their blocks and then put lots of toppings on them.
Faith Garrett, SPC’s digital resources and outreach librarian in Levelland, explains what “Lego Day” idea is all about.
“The goal is to encourage creativity while also giving students an opportunity to spend time in the library,” Garrett says.
Last September, the event was only observed on the Levelland campus.
So, this year the event expanded. Students on the Levelland campus ate pizza instead of their blocks like they did on the Lubbock campus. Either way, students seemed to have fun.
