Over the last two years. South Plains College has invested approximately $14 million in facility improvement projects across the campus.

Of that investment, approximately $6.7 million was dedicated to the renovation of the aquatic center, while approximately $945,000 was put towards the Texan Dome.

Previously known as the Natatorium, the Aquatic Center opened on August 31.

The renovation allowed for improved functionality, appearance and longevity of the facility. According to Nick Castillo, executive director of administrative services at SPC.

So far, the college has completed two major improvements to the dome. The replacement of the roof assures protection of the building and extends the facility’s life. Improvements to the basketball court are quickly visible to the students and visitors.

At the Helen DeVitt Jones Theater, new seats, carpet and paint make it look good as new.

These renovations were made possible through a $120,000 grant.

Castillo says the college prioritizes the improvements of facilities to ensure the students have safe, functional and welcoming places to learn.
